Description:
A huge mistake I saw through many years of waiting tables was allowing the kids to eat first. They were always finished by the time the parents food came and then they were ready to go. My husband and I either share our salad or ask for crackers to stall our 3 year-old until her meal arrives. Even if she takes longer to eat (which varies drastically), we can be patient while she finishes, she cannot do the same for us! I find that it is much easier to keep her entertained at the beginning of the dining experience versus the end.

Other comments or suggestions:
A recent trick I learned is allowing her to sit in a booth opposite me when we dine without my husband. I think it is the sense of independence that keeps her in line. No high chair, no booster, just sitting in a "big girl" seat like her mommy.
